James Roby (born November 22, 1985 in Whiston ) is an English rugby league player. He plays for St Helens in the Super League and has won the Super League twice and the Challenge Cup three times with them .

Career

Roby attended Cowley Language College from 1997 to 2002 and began studying sports science at Liverpool John Moores University , which he dropped out after a year to focus on his rugby career. He first played for the North West Counties U-18 team. In 2004 he made his Super League debut for St Helens against the Widnes Vikings .

In 2006 he won the Super League Grand Final and the Challenge Cup Final with St Helens. He also took part with Great Britain in the Tri Nations 2006 and in a series of test matches against Australia and New Zealand.

At the beginning of the 2007 season he won the World Club Challenge with St Helens against the Brisbane Broncos . He won the Challenge Cup final again with St Helens, in which he put a try this time and received the Man of Steel Award .

In 2008 he made it with St Helens in the Super League Grand Final, which they lost to the Leeds Rhinos . He participated with England in the Rugby League World Cup in 2008 and was named Man of the Match in his debut against Papua New Guinea .

In 2010 he took part with England in a friendly against France. In 2011 he participated with England in the Four Nations and in 2013 in the Rugby League World Cup.

Despite rumors of a move to the NRL , he signed a five-year deal with St Helens in 2013.

In 2014 he won the Super League Grand Final for the second time with St Helens and received the Harry Sunderland Trophy as MVP .
