The Schrannenhalle is a building built in 1866 in the neo-Gothic style in Erding . A Schranne was a grain market.

The building is used today as the office of the district and city savings bank Erding-Dorfen . It is entered in the list of monuments.

Location and description

The large house marks the center of Erdingen's city center and is in the line of sight of all three central street spaces: Schrannenplatz from the east, Lange Linie from the north and Haager Strasse from the south.

The building is a three-storey hipped roof building with a high arcade floor on the ground floor (closed today). The bell tower (around 1370) of the neighboring parish church of St. Johannes is built into the Schrannenhalle.

prehistory

In 1562 the late Gothic town hall was built in the same place. Even back then, the ground floor served as a Schrannenhalle in which sacks of grain were stored. A grain market was held every Thursday in the square in front of it. For a long time Erding was Bavaria's largest grain market after Munich.

In 1825, the Sparkasse Erding was founded as the second savings bank in Bavaria and was located in the town hall. In 1865, before the new Schrannenhalle was built, the Erdingen Town Hall and the Stadtsparkasse moved together into the Grafenstock , where the city administration is still located today.

history

In 1866 the new Schrannenhalle was built. The bell tower from the 14th century, which is not connected to the church of St. Johann (Erding) , was built into the hall as in the previous building. The building served as a grain exchange and transshipment point. As early as 1872, the importance of the Schranne decreased due to the rail connection to Munich.

In 1911 the grain market was closed due to lack of demand. The open ground floor was closed. In the following decades the building had different users; The agricultural winter school was housed there for a long time , with laboratories, seminar rooms and a dormitory under the roof. After that, the Red Cross was housed there.

In 1953 the Stadtsparkasse Erding acquired the Schrannenhalle and set up its main office there. In 2012 the Schrannenhalle was completely renovated. The upper floors were given an oxide red color instead of the previously gray and white color, which is based on the original from 1866.
