List of architectural monuments in Erding
The monuments of the Upper Bavarian city of Erding are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The following information does not replace the legally binding information from the monument protection authority.
Ensemble old town Erding
File number: E-1-77-117-1
Erding was founded as a new foundation in the area of the old Bavarian settlement Altenerding in the second quarter of the 13th century on the Schongau-Munich-Landshut highway bypassing the Freising monastery by Duke Otto I of Bavaria . The city was consciously created as a ducal base against the bishopric. Its pear-shaped shape results from the two arched watercourses of the Sempt river in the east and the artificially deepened Fehlbach in the west, which surround the long sides of the city and gave Erding the value of a water fortress. Wall, moat and rampart, remnants of which are still present, already existed in the founding century and were further expanded from the 15th to the 17th century; the west side of the city directed against Freising received special attention in this context.
The inner structure of the city plan shows essential features, which are also known from the other new cities founded by Wittelsbach in the 13th century. A 400 m long north-south axis, the Lange Linie (which also includes Friedrich-Fischer-Strasse), runs the entire length of the city from the former Freising to the former Haager Tor. It is designed as a spacious street market, which tapers towards the ends and is divided into two sections by the former free-standing town hall (now the Sparkasse), which was replaced by the Schrannenhalle in 1866. This dividing point at the height of the largest, 280 m wide extension of the city, is the joint of the entire urban organism; The east-west transverse axis (Landshuter Straße) meets it vertically, also a street market, which is still sealed off in the east by the Landshuter Tor, extends in front of the former town hall to Schrannenplatz, but does not find any extension into the western half of the city. Rather, this fourth, strikingly narrow western semi-axis is offset to the south in the smallest of the four city quarters, but under the protection of the former ducal castle.
The large number and size of the market areas in the city testify to its position as a trading center, especially for grain and cattle, in a fertile surrounding area, which went far beyond its initial strategic importance.
The parish church of St. Johann, a hall building from the first half of the 15th century, retains itself from the market axes, covers its eastern parts facing the city center with the town hall (or the successor building), but on the other hand moves its tower, a free-standing one Structure from the 14th century, as a town and watchtower against the town center. The importance of the former town hall as the fulcrum of the urban fabric is accentuated. A second smaller church, the 14th century Frauenkirche, is part of the renovation of Schrannenplatz and is to be understood as a market church. The Holy Spirit Church of the 15th century with the Spital am Landshuter Tor is also strictly aligned with the southern alignment of the transverse axis.
Of the town houses, the older ones were destroyed in the great city fire of 1648. Along the historic Marktstrasse and alleys, residential buildings from the 18th century predominate, mostly broad, two-storey gabled houses of the steeper Landshut type as well as of the town house type of the Inn / Salzach towns with an advance wall. Some aristocratic palaces from the 18th century set special accents within these bourgeois buildings (former Palais Preysing, now town hall, on Landshuter Straße, former Palais Widnmann on Langenzeile). In the side streets, the historical development is noticeably downgraded in terms of height and effort.
Of the historical, very early suburbs, the new town (Haager Vorstadt), which was laid out in the 14th century and appears very concise in its floor plan, was so alienated from its former character by air raids in 1945 and the subsequent reconstruction that it was not included in the ensemble . In the last thirty years in the Langenzeile and in the Friedrich-Fischer-Straße disruptions have arisen in the ensemble due to immense new buildings. The expanse of the market streets and the relatively low development with old Bavarian town houses give the city the character of a founding city and, moreover, an old Bavarian country town.
Boundaries of the ensemble: Am Herzoggraben, from the pedestrian bridge on Privy Councilor-Irl-Straße following the course of the Sempt to the north to the Friedhofsweg bridge, Am Mühlgraben, Am Herzoggraben to the plot of land Fl. No. 154, against the course of the Fehlbach to the south to the pedestrian bridge on Kordonhausgasse.

Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The monument property - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the monument atlas or the entry in the Bavarian monument list. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
