Church in Niederding

Johann Baptist Lethner (* approx. 1700 in Tannried near Oberwarngau, Warngau ; † December 10, 1782 in Erding ) was an Upper Bavarian bricklayer and master builder who, as Erdinger's city mason, built numerous baroque churches in Erdinger Land.

Life

Lethner married the widow of Anton Kogler , who died in 1729, who , like his father Hans and his grandfather Kaspar, belonged to a master mason family originally from Schliersee , who provided the Erdingen city mason master from 1649 to 1729 after the Thirty Years' War .

After Hans Kogler had already managed the expansion, renovation or new construction of almost twenty churches and Anton added around thirty more churches, Johann Baptist Lethner, as the next Erdingen city mason, built well more than twenty churches. Then Mathias Rösler, who came from Vienna and married into the family, continued the tradition until 1808.
