Schrobbelèr

Schrobbelèr is a herb from the Dutch Tilburg . The alcohol content of 21.5% vol. is below that of most similar products, so the Schrobbelèr is relatively sweet. The drink is sold in stone bottles and drunk from a shot glass with a short stem. The liqueur is particularly popular during the Tilbuger Carnival .

history

Schrobbelèr was founded in 1973 when the Tilburg entrepreneur and liqueur lover Jan Wassing (1930–1981) served a self-made mixed drink to his friends and acquaintances in his house bar Bij den schrobbelaar during the carnival . This drink was low in alcohol because Wassing had stomach problems. The liqueur distiller Isidorus Jonkers (1931-2016) examined the recipe of the drink on Wassing's order and in 1978 the two began producing it on a larger scale. Until 2004, the liqueur was made by Isidorus Jonger in the Johan van Zantenstraat behind the distillery. Since then, Jonkers Distillers BV has been producing in the Polluxtraat in the Vossenberg industrial area. In 2010 the distillery was taken over by PW Groep BV , which is based in Eindhoven and belongs to a son Jan Wassings. Since then, the herbal liqueur has also been exported to some countries; in English-speaking countries it is sold under the name Jans .

Trivia

  • In 2008 the company sponsored the concert tour Groots met een Zachte G by the singer Guus Meeuwis . To mark the occasion, Meeuwis wrote a new text for Udo Juergens ' hit song Greek Wine (1974), which he sang under the title Drink Schrobbelèr .
