Wiedikon school and prayer house

The Wiedikon school and prayer house is an evangelical reformed church and is located at Schlossgasse 10 not far from the Wiedikon forge in the Zurich district of Wiedikon . Since January 1, 2019, the building has belonged to parish three of the Evangelical Reformed parish of Zurich.

history

The building was built between 1789 and 1791 for teaching children and schools. At that time, Wiedikon still belonged to the parish of St. Peter . The prayer house was replaced by the Bühl church in 1896 , but served the Italian-speaking Protestant community as a place of worship until 1947. In 1947 the church interior was redesigned in line with its earlier use as a meeting room. In 1955 the tower was renovated, from 1996 to 1997 the building was completely renovated and the room layout was optimized. Today the management and administration of parish three of the Evangelical Reformed parish of Zurich are quartered there. The administration uses the school building, while the 107 m² church space and various other rooms are used for various events.

description

The Wiedikon school and prayer house is a broad, rectangular baroque building with a hipped roof and a roof turret with dials. In front of the building is a forecourt with a fountain and linden tree. The school building to the east is two-story and is set back from the prayer house. Three high arched windows characterize each of the three facades of the prayer house. In the middle of the roof ridge is the roof turret, which is closed with a hood. The building follows the tradition of the prayer houses with an attached schoolhouse and has been a listed building since 1974 . The protection status is communal, the lowest of the three protection levels. As one of the last witnesses to the old Wiedikon, it is a landmark of the former village center.

The prayer house had a Kuhn organ from 1947. In 2006 the defective instrument was removed and given away.
