Groden School

The Groden school in Cuxhaven - Groden , Papenstrasse 4, is now a primary school, is under the protection of historical monuments in Lower Saxony and is included in the list of architectural monuments in the outer districts of the city of Cuxhaven .

history

A school in Groden was first mentioned in 1562. The first school building was built in 1629 east of the St. Abundus Church . In 1910 - at the time of the new school building - the district had 1,026 inhabitants and today (2018) around 3,000 inhabitants.

The two-storey clinkered building from 1911 with the distinctive central gable porch with a mansard roof and the two wing structures with hipped roofs was built according to plans by Achmet Steinmetz . The U-shaped system is grouped around the schoolyard.

Until 2002 the school was a primary and secondary school, then a primary school.
Today (2020) it has around 100 students in seven classes. The Friends of the Groden School supports the school. The day care center is run by the St. Abundus day care center .

Steinmetz designed in Cuxhaven a. a. the villa Gehben , several fish halls at the harbor and the corner house at Nordersteinstrasse / Holstenstrasse.
