history

Surname

The street was named after the Low German word Pape , which stands for pastor, as he used the path between the Groden and Ritzebüttel church games. This name is already recorded in 1755. The street was later called Grodener Chaussee between Groden and Ritzebüttel until 1912 , when it got its old name again.

development

Papenstrasse is an old connection between Ritzebüttel and Groden . The road connection continued to Altenbruch , Otterndorf , Stade and Hamburg . It was designated as a country road that led to Stade from 1856, from 1932 as Fernverkehrsstraße 73 , from 1934 as Reichsstraße 73 (R 73) and from 1949 as Bundesstraße 73 (B 73). In 1913 it was paved, in 1926 the footpath and bike path were added and in 1950 a concrete, later asphalted road surface.

After Ritzebüttel and Alt-Cuxhaven were united in 1872, the local area was expanded to a greater extent. In 1935 the rural community of Groden came to the city of Cuxhaven. In 1890 Cuxhaven had 4,905 inhabitants, in 1910 there were 14,888 and in 1939 already 31,046. Long-distance traffic for the up-and-coming North Sea resort increased significantly with increasing motorization , especially after the Second World War . In 1974, with and after the construction of the Autobahn 27 from Bremerhaven to Cuxhaven, the road to the city center was also expanded to four lanes.

A number of businesses have settled on the busy road.

In terms of traffic, the road is opened up by the KVG bus routes 1003 (Bahnhof / ZOB-Groden-Altenbruch-Lüdingworth) .
