The Schulplatz 1 building is a listed building in the Gernrode district of the city of Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located in the southern part of Gernröder's old town on the south side of the school square and is registered as a school in the local register of monuments.

Architecture and history

The two-story freestanding massive building was built in 1901 as a middle school . The plastered building was built in the neo-renaissance style . The shape of the window differs from floor to floor. The portal is designed as a round arch and accentuated with volutes and segment attachments . Above the portal is the large lettering ERBAUT 1901. On the garden side, the house has a central risalit with a segmented and stepped gable.

Various fittings from the construction period have been preserved inside the building.

In July 2006, part of the operation of the local elementary school was relocated to the Schulplatz 1 building. On October 25, 2010, school operations in the building ceased. The primary school moved to the newly built school center on the Hagenberg. For the house at Schulplatz 1, as well as for the neighboring buildings, the establishment of age-appropriate apartments was planned. In October 2011 the roof of the building was re-covered.
