A training aircraft is an aircraft that has been specially designed for the training of pilots or for whose construction the training purpose was also specifically planned.

A beginner's training aircraft is usually a single-engine aircraft that is particularly easy to fly, such as the Cessna 150/152 or Cessna 172 . It is used to practice general aviation maneuvers.

The highest demands are placed on a combat training aircraft. Modern combat training aircraft , for example the Pilatus PC-9 or the Embraer EMB 312 , not only have powerful turbine engines and excellent flight characteristics, but are also able to simulate a wide range of weapon systems of combat aircraft and, depending on the configuration, to carry weapons and to use.

Training aircraft are usually designed to have at least two seats so that the flight instructor can give the student pilot tasks and instructions. For demonstration purposes or in the event of a misconduct on the part of the student, the teacher can take control of the aircraft via a double control.
