A protective bridge is a bridge-like construction underneath an aerial cableway or an overhead line when crossing a traffic route . Its purpose is to ensure that, in the event of an accident, no rope or transported material falls onto the traffic route and causes consequential accidents.

In Germany it was customary until the mid-1920s to erect protective bridges under overhead lines that cross roads or railway lines. Some of these constructions are still preserved in Silesia today. In Scandinavia you can still occasionally find protective bridges under overhead lines.

In Germany, too, protective bridges are still being built wherever aerial cableways run above roads, railways or overhead lines.
