Crossing the B 27 with a protective bridge

The Dotternhausen – Plettenberg material ropeway is a Lorenseilbahn in Baden-Württemberg operated by Holcim (Süddeutschland) GmbH .

The cable car is designed as a circulating cable car with 65 wagons , each of which can hold 1.7 tons of material. In a straight 2.3 km long stretch, it connects the cement works in Dotternhausen over federal highway 27 with the company's own limestone quarry on the western slope of Plettenberg at the foot of the Swabian Alb , where 4,000 tons of White Jura are mined every day .

history

The material ropeway was built in 1942 and modernized in 1971.

course

The material ropeway is located to the west or south-west of the Dotternhausen settlements and runs in a south-easterly direction.

It begins on the premises of Holcim (Süddeutschland) GmbH. After 85 meters you cross Bundesstraße 27 (support 2), after 180 meters cross Schömberger Straße (support 3) and after 670 meters you cross Plettenbergstraße (support 6). These crossings are each secured with a bridge to protect the lorries from losing their cargo. At kilometer 1.13 (pillar 9) the route disappears for the most part in the wooded slope of the Plettenberg, but the aisle is clearly visible. Several forest and forest roads are crossed in the forest, but these are only secured with warning signs. From kilometer 1.75, the Plettenbergstrasse runs for approx. 100 meters (at pillars 11 and 12) parallel to the route. After 2.303 kilometers, the material cable car ends in the mountain station on the Plettenberg.

In this direction the trucks are empty. The material is transported downhill.

A large part of the route is located on land owned by the Dotternhausen community. The operator pays a rent of 500 euros per month to the community for the new construction of the cable car.

New building

planning

A new material ropeway with a larger transport capacity is to be built in autumn 2020. It is planned that the cable car can also transport people. The planning approval decision was issued by the Tübingen regional council in December 2019. The mountain and valley stations and the route should not change. 16 pillars, five of them new, will be erected. The current railway has 13 supporting structures.

Conveyance and passenger transport

The cable car is planned as an automatically detachable monocable gondola with 126 trolleys (plus four replacement trolleys and a maintenance vehicle) and five cabins with four seats each. The maximum conveying capacity is 450 t / h at a maximum travel speed of 6.0 m / s. The drive is to be installed in the valley station as an overground drive, the garage in the mountain station. 1 t of material can be transported per cart.

business

With a constant dismantling capacity of 4,000 tons per working day on the Plettenberg, the weekend operation of the material ropeway is to be stopped. For this purpose, the conveying capacity of the cable car is to be increased from 300 t / h to 450 t / h, which should lead to a reduction in the daily net operating time from approx. 13.5 to 9 hours. The renovation is intended to improve the safety standards and noise reduction. It is planned to reduce the current daily operating hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
