The Faiveley Transport Schwab AG is a Swiss rail vehicle suppliers based in Schaffhausen . The company specializes in the development, manufacture and sale of couplings , railway buffers, pulling devices and spring elements for rail vehicles .
history
The roots of the company go back to December 1912, as a specialized office for the field of transport technology within the foundry group Georg Fischer (+ GF +). The first couplings were developed in 1914. In 1965 the semi-automatic + GF + clutch was developed and marketed. In 1973 buffers and pulling devices were added to the range.
On November 1, 1993, the “Rail Transport Technology” division was spun off from the Georg Fischer Group and became a legally independent subsidiary of the Georg Fischer Group. GF withdrew from this business in November 1998 with the sale of the subsidiary to Schwab Holding, renaming it Schwab Verkehrstechnik AG . At the time of the takeover, the company had 19 employees and a turnover of 12 million Swiss francs .
In 1999 a gas hydraulic spring was specially developed for buffers and couplings. Due to the growing demand for a coupling system that enables the uncoupling process even under tensile force, the fully automatic Schwab coupling type FK was developed in 2000. In 2005 the Scharfenberg- compatible coupling of type 10 was developed.
After the announcement in January 2009, "Schwab Verkehrstechnik AG" was taken over by Abas Rail Holding AG , a majority stake in the private equity company Cross Equity Partners AG (managed by Markus Reich and Michael Petersen), with Schwab Holding AG (led by Peter Kofmel) as a minority shareholder.
On May 17, 2013 it was announced that Cross Equity was selling its majority stake in “Schwab Verkehrstechnik AG” to Faiveley Transport SA , which was completed in July 2013. Organizationally, "Schwab Verkehrstechnik AG" was incorporated into the Safety & Brakes division . At the end of 2013, the company employed 47 people, including 9 in the development and construction department. In May 2015 the name was changed to Faiveley Transport Schwab AG . In the first half of 2017, the parent company Faiveley was bought by Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corporation (Wabtec Corporation) for around US $ 1.5 billion .
