history

Predecessor company

Westinghouse Air Brake Company

Westinghouse Air Brake Company was founded by George Westinghouse in 1869 to build and market the automatic air brake he developed. In 1990, the Railway Products Group was released through a management buy-out from the American Standard Companies group. A new company was created under the old name Westinghouse Air Brake Company , which also holds the trademark rights to WABCO in the rail vehicle sector . In 1995 the company went public.

MotivePower Industries

MotivePower Industries goes back to the activities of Morrison-Knudsen that began in the 1970s . The company began to recondition and repower locomotives. For this purpose it opened in Boise ( Idaho to care for your plant). 1980 Morrison-Knudson acquired from General Electric , the former Erie Lackawanna Railroad -Werkstatt in Hornell ( New York ). Nine years later, another plant was opened in Mountaintop, Pennsylvania . At the same time, the company acquired several suppliers in the railway sector in order to expand its own product range and to be able to offer additional technologies. In 1993 the rail sector was spun off as an independent subsidiary under the name Morrison Knudsen Rail Corporation , or MK Rail for short . In April 1994, 35% of the company was floated on the stock exchange. In 1995 the parent company went bankrupt, as a result of which in October 1996 the remaining shares of MK Rail were assigned to the creditor banks. On January 1, 1997, the company was renamed MotivePower Industries . The Boise Locomotive Workshop became a subsidiary of the Boise Locomotive Company and the engine division became the Engine Systems Company .

Wabtec Corporation

After the merger, Wabtec expands with the takeover of several companies active in the railway sector. This is how the following companies joined Wabtec from 2000:
