history
Faiveley was founded in 1919 and initially manufactured electromechanical equipment for public transport such as taxis , subways and passenger cars . At that time there was also an order for equipment for the Paris metro . With the expansion of the subway and electric train operation, the company's range was expanded to include pantographs and automatic door drives.
The French supplier Air-Industrie, founded in 1950, has been part of the Faiveley Group since 1984 . The electronics division has existed since 1968 with a focus on switching systems and energy conversion, to which programmable logic controllers for air conditioning systems were later added. 1995 Faiveley acquired Hagenuk Fahrzeugklima GmbH . In November 2004 Faiveley took over Sab Wabco , one of the leading European companies for rail vehicle brake systems and clutches, with headquarters in Sweden. In 2008 Faiveley took over Nowe , a German manufacturer of sand spreading equipment for trams , and a Chinese compressor manufacturer. In 2010 Faiveley entered into a joint venture with the American manufacturer of freight car bogies Amsted Rail . At the beginning of 2011 Faiveley took over 80% of the Swiss company Urs Dolder AG , which specializes in the manufacture of heating systems.
In 2015, US competitor Wabtec acquired 51% of the capital from the founding family; the necessary approval by the US and EU competition authorities was only available by the end of 2016; Wabtec subsequently opened a mandatory offer to the free shareholders; By March 2017, the share could thus be increased to over 95% of the shares, which made a squeeze-out possible. Since then Faiveley has been wholly owned by Wabtec. The listing was withdrawn accordingly.
