The polishing machine is an electrically driven machine for polishing objects that can be polished, in particular metal parts and rocks. After grinding of the metal with the grinder or a grinding stone are treated with the coarser irregularities removed, is optionally the polishing with the polishing machine, and polishing machine called.

Structure and mode of operation

The structure of the polishing machines is very similar to that of the grinding machines. Is at its continuous horizontal shaft on the left side of a left-handed thread and on the right side of a right-hand thread , each of which is used to attach the polishing wheels, which are mounted by means of nuts to the clamping jaws. Left-hand and right-hand threads prevent the nuts from loosening and the rotating disks from falling off when the shaft rotates. At high speeds, this machine must be set up firmly on a base on the floor because of the large vibrations it causes . The accessories include a fire disc, which is usually made of hard felt, onto which emery is applied with glue . For the final polishing , a buffing wheel is used , which consists of special sewn cloth disks to which polishing wax (solid wax ) is applied during rotation . This disc completely removes the fine unevenness and processing marks in the metal that can still be seen during the “firing”. This gives the metal a mirror-like surface. The polish should not only give gloss, but also increase resistance to corrosion .

species

  • There are smaller polishing machines u. a. for home improvement, which use flexible vibrating discs or belts, as well as attachments for hand drills. These are operated with normal 230 volt household appliance electricity.
  • There are also polishing machines in building cleaning for stone floors that work exclusively with buffing discs. These use liquid polishing wax.
