The black willow leaf beetle ( Luperus luperus ) is a beetle from the leaf beetle family and the subfamily Galerucinae .

features

The beetles are slender in shape with long antennae and slender legs. They are 4–4.5 mm long. The species shows a sexual dimorphism . The male head, pronotum and abdomen are black. The center and back rails are darker from the center to the top. Otherwise the legs are yellow with the exception of the femora , which are black at the base. The wing covers are narrower and more elongated than that of Luperus longicornis . They often have a slightly greenish tinge. The male's eyes are also smaller and less prominent. The females have a reddish brown pronotum. The legs are yellow with the exception of the femora, which can be partially black.

distribution

The species is common in Central Europe. Their occurrence ranges from Spain, France, Italy, the Benelux countries, Germany, Switzerland and Austria to Eastern Europe.

Way of life

The adult beetles can be seen between May and July. They are usually found on willows ( Salix ). The larvae probably overwinter on grass roots.
