Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum
The Swedish Railway Museum ( Swedish Sveriges Järnvägsmuseum ) is Sweden's national railway museum . The facility, located in a former boiler house of the Ostkustbana at Rälsgatan 1 in Gävle , shows historic vehicles, model trains and other exhibits on the history of the railway.
history
Historically valuable material was stored for a future museum as early as 1906. The regular collection activity began with the Baltic Exhibition in Malmö in 1914. These collections from Malmö formed the basis for today's Railway Museum.
The first museum opened in 1915 in an office building at Stockholm Central Station , and the exhibition halls for locomotives and cars were completed between 1942 and 1945.
The model exhibition closed in 1946 and did not reopen until the 1950s.
This place was not particularly suitable, so that later the locomotive shed on the Ostkustbana in Gävle became the domicile of the museum.
In September 2017, the museum was closed for renovation work until 2020. The museum was operated by Trafikverket until December 31, 2017 , after which the authority Statens maritima museer , which also manages the Maritime History Museum and the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, took over operations.
Others
