The tail strap

The tail strap is an approximately 2 to 3 cm wide leather strap and z. B. at the upper saddle end or Kutsch dishes attached. It runs in the middle of the horse's back towards the tail, is there as a round padded strap under the tail and can be closed with a buckle on the left side of the horse.

The aim is to keep the saddle in position and prevent it from sliding forward onto the forehand. It offers another attachment point for the saddle (or harness) to the waist belt, which is usually sufficient for larger horses. The tail strap always serves as a fastening to the horse, as the upper part of the tail is solid, i.e. with a skeleton, and offers support. One speaks of the tail because the anatomical tail (with vertebrae) and the long hair growing on it form the tail.
