Schweigmatt is a 780 meter high hamlet in the southern Black Forest . As a district of Raitbach, it belongs to the town of Schopfheim in the district of Lörrach in Baden-Württemberg .

geography

The hamlet of Schweigmatt is located on the southern slope of the approximately 993 m (above sea level) Hohen Möhr , northeast of the core area of Schopfheim, and includes the Blumberg farms in addition to the actual hamlet. Around 1400 the Eichbrunnenhof deserted area belonged to the Schweigmatt.

history

The hamlet of Schweigmatt, mentioned in a document as early as 1113 in a donation by Walchos von Waldeck , was a much-visited and respected health resort for about 100 years. B. Konrad Adenauer was a guest. Before the onset of mass tourism, many people came to Schweigmatt, especially from the nearby Swiss city of Basel , to spend the weekend there or to relax longer. Every second house was therefore an inn, but the most important was the large health resort of the state insurance company, which was demolished in 1970 - today there is an open space there.

The special thing about the Schweigmatt is the view over the Rhine valley, the Jura up to the Alps and at the same time easy access from the valley - the next train station Hausen-Raitbach with direct connection to Lörrach and Basel is only four minutes away by car. The summit of the Hohe Möhr mountain , on the slope of which the village is located, is easy to reach . The observation tower there offers a good view of the Black Forest and the chain of the Alps .

There is still an outdoor swimming pool in Schweigmatt from this short term, very rare in Germany at this altitude. Various inns served as children's rest homes before, during and after World War II, such as the current Gasthof Waldhaus, formerly a home for girls, and Lueginsland, which was also a school camp for the city of Rheinfelden for a while . Today's Schopfheim Waldorf School also had its starting point in the Lueginsland . Today the anthroposophical Michael-Gemeinschaft eV operates a youth welfare facility in new buildings.

The American actress Q'orianka Kilcher was born in 1990 in Schweigmatt.
