The Swiss Informatics Society (SI) is a Swiss organization of scientists and specialists in the field of informatics .

The association was founded by Carl August Zehnder , Kurt Bauknecht and Pierre-André Bobillier in 1983, when the first graduates in computer science were available. Helmar Burkhart was President from 1990 to 1992, and Jürg Gutknecht has held the office since 2014 . SI has around 2000 members, academics in research and teaching and representatives from business, administration and training. The company is the largest organization of IT specialists in Switzerland. A main concern of SI is the exchange between education and application. There are around 20 different working groups, including those for computer graphics , information security , open government data , cloud computing and green IT . A working group coordinated by ETH Zurich deals with databases in theory and use. The SIRA specialist group, which was founded in 2012, consists of 300 computer science professors. The society works as a network for its members and represents their interests in politics and education.

Networking

SI works in international exchange with the American Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the German Society for Informatics (GI). The organization is a member of the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS). SI is the Swiss partner for the international certificate European Computer Driving License (ECDL). The company takes part in conferences, such as in 2013 in Zurich on the role of efficient energy and sustainable development ("Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in energy efficiency and sustainable development"). She represents Swiss computer science in the scientific umbrella associations Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences (SATW) and International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).
