The Swiss Epilepsy League (formerly the Swiss League Against Epilepsy ) is a specialist organization operating throughout Switzerland and an interest group dealing with the clinical picture of epilepsy . It is a member of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) and forms its national section in Switzerland (since 1964). The Epilepsy League promotes research and advises specialists, patients and relatives. It also informs and sensitizes the public to the subject of epilepsy. In doing so, she wants to contribute to the integration of those affected by epilepsy in society.

activities

Until 2018, the Swiss Epilepsy League published the journal Epileptologie , which appeared four times a year. It organizes regular annual meetings at which science and training are imparted, alternating annually with other Swiss specialist societies and as a "three-country meeting" together with the German Society for Epileptology and the Austrian Society for Epileptology .

Some commissions deal with medical and organizational aspects of epilepsy.

Every year, it awards a research funding prize of CHF 25,000 and a doctorate prize of CHF 1,000 every three years to young scientists. In addition, together with the German Society for Epileptology and the Austrian Society for Epileptology, it awards the Alfred Hauptmann Prize, endowed with 10,000 euros, on the occasion of the three -country conferences.

It organizes Epilepsy Day on October 5th and a conference for patients and relatives every November. It provides information for all interested parties. Three times a year, specialist events for further training in the field of epileptology and public events to inform the public about the clinical picture take place.

The league is also politically active and has been drawing attention to the risk of drug shortages especially for those affected by epilepsy since 2019. In 2019, she published the results of a population survey on the subject of epilepsy and a short film on first aid for an epileptic fit.
