The Swiss Society for Psychology (SGP), French Société Suisse de Psychologie (SSP) , formerly: Swiss Society for Psychology and its Applications , is Switzerland's national professional association for the promotion of scientific psychology for psychologists working in teaching and research. Swiss Psychological Society (SPS) is also officially used as a name, the homepage and many documents are only available in English.

Since 2015, a doctorate in psychology (in exceptional cases a doctorate in another subject, if they are proven in psychological research) has been a prerequisite for full membership. A university degree with a major in psychology with a corresponding academic degree entitles you to associate membership (and until 2015 was sufficient for full membership).

As a professional association, the SGP was a founding member of the Federation of Swiss Psychologists . In September 2015 the statutes were changed so that full members no longer have to be members of the FSP. As a result, the SGP has not been a member of the FSP since the beginning of 2016. Thus, as in the neighboring German-speaking countries, the Science Society SGP and the professional association FSP have become equal partners in the representation of psychology in Switzerland and continue to cooperate.

The SGP represents Switzerland in the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS).

The seat of the SGP is in Bern.

The SGP was founded in 1943, the first president was Jean Piaget . It currently has around 360 members from 12 different institutions, mainly Swiss universities. All psychological university institutes are represented on the board of the SGP. The information of its members, active public relations work and the representation of the technical and political interests of the members in various committees are core tasks.

The SGP is the publisher of the Swiss Journal of Psychology , which appears four times a year. A newsletter is published four times a year and a bulletin for members once a year.

A central task consists in the development of professional ethics guidelines and checklists for the ethical assessment of psychological research projects by the ethics committee of the SGP and in the support of the establishment and activities of regional ethics committees at Swiss universities.

The SGP organizes a national congress every two years. The 15th congress took place in Lausanne in 2017.

The next generation of scientists is supported by a research prize awarded every two years in the field of psychology.
