The Swiss Booksellers and Publishers Association ( SBVV ) is an association founded around 1949 with headquarters in Zurich , which represents the interests of the book trade of all levels ( book publishers , intermediate book trade , retail book trade) for German and Romansh Switzerland and Liechtenstein , analogous to the Exchange Association of the German Book Trade . Its external organ is the specialist journal Schweizer Buchhandel .

The SBVV emerged in 1949 as the Swiss Booksellers and Publishers Association from the merger of the Swiss Booksellers Association (SBV) founded in 1849 with the Association of Swiss Publishers and Booksellers (VSV) founded in 1918 . From September 1976 the Association of Swiss Booksellers and Publishers was called, since January 2002 it has had its current name.

The SBVV offers its members numerous services such as uniform regulation of training, courses for further education, a collective employment contract or the publication of the monthly Swiss book trade (including weekly newsletters). From the outside, he is involved - in addition to the usual lobbying or use for the promotion of reading - especially for the presentation of the local book creation at book fairs at home and abroad or at the International World Book Day and continued until 2012 for the reintroduction of a statutory book prices for Switzerland.

In 2004 he was involved in founding the Swiss Book Lobby and in establishing the Swiss Book Prize , which was awarded for the first time in 2008 .
