Swiss association for gas and water

The Swiss Gas and Water Association (SVGW) is the knowledge, specialist and network organization for Swiss gas and water utilities . It promotes the gas, district heating and water sector in technical and technical-scientific terms, with special attention to safety , hygiene and reliable supply .

In the energy sector, as a specialist organization, it aims to promote the safe, clean and economical provision and use of gaseous energy sources, liquefied energy gases and heat (especially district heating and district cooling ) as well as the prevention of accidents, malfunctions and damage. He is particularly committed to the prevention of accidents, disruptions and damage. As a specialist organization in the field of drinking water, it aims to promote and coordinate the sustainable supply of the population with safe drinking water in sufficient quantities. The SVGW is committed to protecting water resources. One means of achieving these goals is through training and further education.

The seat of the association, which was founded in Bern on May 18, 1873 , is at the location of the office in Zurich . It has around 1200 members , including gas and water suppliers , engineers , industrial partners and authorities .

tasks

To achieve the purpose of the association, the SVGW sets itself the following tasks relating to the gas and water sector:

  1. Elaboration, publication and dissemination of the SVGW set of rules (documents); Coordination, planning and participation in standardization work and technical regulations in connection with national and international institutions
  2. Provision of beneficial services in the interest of the gas or water sector such as:
    • Operation of technical inspectorates, certification and testing centers
    • Preparation and mediation of expert opinions
    • Implementation, promotion, support and monitoring of training in gas, water and installation subjects
    • Implementation and promotion of technical and technical-scientific events and courses
    • Collection, evaluation and dissemination of technical and technical-scientific knowledge, investigations and operating data, technical-statistical documents, publications and the like
    • Professional advice for members and other interested parties
    • Exchange of experience and operational data
  3. Processing of legal, statistical, ecological and other problems in the technical area that are in the interest of gas supplies
  4. Processing of legal, statistical, economic, social, ecological and other problems that are in the interest of water supplies
  5. Influence on legislation
  6. Public relations in the field of safety and drinking water as well as publication of the specialist journal AQUA & GAS (formerly gwa (gas - water - waste water))
  7. Professional cooperation with authorities and institutions at home and abroad, in particular with associations and organizations in the energy , sewage , gas and water sectors
  8. Participation in organizations and institutions that serve the interests of the association.

Set of rules

The water regulations range from W1 "Guideline for Quality Monitoring in Drinking Water Supply" to W10 015 "Information sheet; Electrical separation of water pipes and earthing systems ".

The gas regulations range from the G1 "Guideline for natural gas installation in buildings (gas guidelines)" to G10 002 "Information sheet for planning, construction, operation and maintenance of gas installations in biogas plants".

The regulations are in German and French, some in Italian.

education

The SVGW offers training and further education. The offer ranges from practice-oriented courses and higher vocational training to leadership training and university training. In 2013, over 1900 people attended a course or training course.

Aqua expo

With the touring exhibition aqua-expo, the SVGW wants to strengthen the positive image of drinking water , show the services of Swiss water suppliers and protect the resource of drinking water.
