The Große Diesdorfer Strasse indoor swimming pool (also known as the Diesdorf indoor swimming pool or Dynamo indoor swimming pool) is a communal indoor swimming pool in Magdeburg 's Stadtfeld West district . The hall is used by swimming for training and competition purposes.
history
The facility was first opened in 1958 as an outdoor swimming pool at the construction workers' stadium. In 1971 the pool was roofed over so that it can be used all year round and as an indoor pool . In 2011 the hall was modernized and converted to make it accessible for the disabled. In addition to a 50x20m swimming pool with eight lanes and a grandstand with space for up to 300 spectators, there has been a bio sauna in the hall since then.
Clubs that use the hall for competition and training purposes are, for example, the SC Magdeburg and the Wasserball-Union Magdeburg . The former first division water polo union plays most of its home games in the Große Diesdorfer. Until 1990 the hall was the home of SG Dynamo Magdeburg, which was champion and cup winner several times in the GDR . Furthermore, the swimming pool has repeatedly hosted international matches for the German national water polo team.
