history

House Schlachte 36 (view of the Weser)

The five- to six-storey house on Schlachte and Langenstrasse was built in 2005 as a design hotel ÜberFluss with 51 rooms and a restaurant based on plans by architects Ute Kastens and Uwe Siemann (Bremen) for Kastens und Specht GbR directly on the Weser . It is a building that connects Schlachte and Langenstrasse. The division on the Weser side was based on the three historical parcels, with an older part of the building being cleverly incorporated into the ensemble. The modern, non-historicizing, glass and plate facades convey the historical facade elements. In 2006 the house received recognition at the BDA Prize in Bremen with the comment: A “successful dialogue between architecture and modern interior design”.

The architecture guide bremen writes: "The interior design (artist: Concrete Amsterdam) combines design classics and fine materials into an atmospheric work of art."

Archaeological evidence

Exposed wall remnants in the hotel's wellness area

During the construction preparation, masonry consisting of boulders was developed. The first classification as part of the city wall was later corrected: in fact, the foundations of three stone houses from the Romanesque period standing next to each other were exposed.

The finds allow the conclusion that the common Weser-side facade of the three houses had the character of a city fortification. Jewelry and other items at this site indicate the wealth and influence of the merchants who once lived here.
