Science-Based Medicine is an English website with articles on science and medicine , especially dangerous methods and quackery . Science-Based Medicine has been identified as an influential and respected source of information on medical controversy and alternative medicine .

Steven Novella, a clinical neurologist at Yale University , started the website as a blog and is its executive editor . David Gorski, a surgical oncologist at Wayne State University , is the managing editor . Both regularly write for the blog and are prominent skeptics , doctors, researchers, and communicators.

The blog was quoted (in addition to being mentioned in US media) in German media (e.g. Spiegel Online and Welt ).

The Science-Based Medicine editors describe themselves as "concerned about the way in which unscientific and pseudo-scientific health ideas have increasingly infiltrated academic medicine and medicine in general". They say that the best medicine is based on scientific principles. This implies prior plausibility that is not based solely on direct evidence.
