Science Power Modules
The science and energy modules NEM 1 and 2 (after the Russian name Нау́чно-энергети́ческий мо́дуль or abbreviation НЭМ) are two planned Russian modules for the International Space Station , which are to serve scientific experiments and energy supply. They are to be docked to a Pritschal coupling module that was approved in 2011 and has yet to be started . After the international partners have agreed to use the ISS beyond 2014, the launch of the first is planned for 2022 with a Proton-M rocket .
Technical specifications
The science and energy modules will each have a mass of around 20 t and a diameter of 4.1 m and a length of 25.3 m each including the solar cell panels, each offering 150 m³ of interior space. They are intended to increase the electrical power available in the Russian ISS segment to 30 kW. The final appearance and equipment of the modules is still being worked on.
