Research Modules

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The three Research Modules are laboratories that Russia wanted to build for the International Space Station (ISS) . Most of the project was stopped early on because the economic situation in Russia deteriorated and it could no longer be financed. In the official planning of 1998 there were only two modules. But these two were also deleted. At least one module should have been built by Ukraine (under the leadership of Russia).

A single research module was planned for a few months until the beginning of 2007, but it would have had little in common with those from the 1990s. It would be like a modified TKS spacecraft and would have the nadir port of Zvezda to be mounted.

Research areas

Experiments should be carried out in the following areas:

  • Geoscience
This topic deals with (anthropogenic) changes in the climate and water quality, land use and food production.
  • Astronomical Sciences
This topic includes the observation of objects such as the sun or planets, astronomy and astrophysics .
For example, research is being carried out into the behavior of animals in weightlessness.
  • medicine
Sometimes incurable diseases are researched. The weightlessness is a great advantage.
