history
The league, along with the Scottish Football League , Scottish Football Union and Scottish Football Federation, was one of four leagues that emerged in Scotland in the 1890s. The league's first general meeting was held in Glasgow on June 16, 1891. Several clubs left the league after just one year. In 1893 a number of these clubs returned. After the dissolution of the "Scottish Federation", some clubs joined the "Alliance" before it was also dissolved in 1897. The Scottish Football League was able to establish itself as a league in Scotland and has determined the Scottish champions since 1891 .
