The FC Cowlairs (Football Club Cowlairs) was a Scottish football club from the Cowlairs region in Glasgow , which existed from 1876 to 1896. The club was a founding member of the Scottish Football League in 1890 and played at Springvale Park during his time in the league .
history
The association was founded in 1876 in Cowlairs , an area in what is now the Springburn district of Glasgow , by workers of the Cowlairs Railway . The area grew very rapidly during this period due to its importance to the Glasgow rail industry. In the early years the club was a member of the Glasgow FA . In 1881 , the club entered the Scottish Cup for the first time and reached the fourth round in which they lost 1-0 to FC St. Mirren .
By the end of the decade, cowlairs' reputation grew. In the years 1886 to 1887 they competed in the English FA Cup . At that time the club had the two Scottish internationals Tom McInnes and John McPherson in their ranks.
Cowlairs was one of eleven clubs that founded the Scottish Football League in 1890 . In the first season they finished last in the table. The rules of the league stipulated that the three worst-placed teams had to stand for re-election at the end of the season . Cowlairs, which previously had to face a review on allegations of professionalism, was not reelected. Although the club did not take part in a league competition in the following season, he celebrated the greatest success in the Scottish Cup when it was only in the quarterfinals against the eventual winners Celtic Glasgow that the end came.
Before the 1892/93 season, Cowlairs joined the Scottish Alliance and became instant champions . At the end of the season, the club was not re-elected to the top division, instead the team joined the new Division Two for the 1893/94 season . Cowlairs lost the Glasgow Cup final to the Glasgow Rangers 0-1 in 1894 .
Cowlairs' return to league football began with second place in the 1893/94 season behind Hibernian Edinburgh . The club found itself in financial problems the following year and finished last in Division Two in 1894/95 . Cowlairs then left Springvale Park and returned to Gourlay Park. The association was dissolved in 1896.
