The former Scottish Rite Temple , now known as The Temple Downtown , is a historic building in Mobile, Alabama that previously served as Masonic assemblies. The architect of the Egyptian building was George Bigelow Rogers . He was inspired by ancient pylons and the Bab al-Amara Gate in Karnak . The two obelisks in the roof area originally served as chimneys. The foundation stone of the temple was laid on November 30, 1921, the completion as early as 1921. The building was on January 5, 1984 in the National Register of Historic Placesregistered. Since it was sold to a private person in 1996, it has served as a festive banquet venue.
