history

The Vienna Operetta Summer was launched in 2003 by Karl Scheibmaier. In July and August, a revue of operetta songs and dance interludes was presented at the Akzent Theater in Vienna . In 2005, Scheibmaier moved the event to the Theresianum palace gardens. In 2009, the former set designer for the Vienna operetta summer , Markus Windberger , took over the name of the event. Since then, entire operettas have been played at the Vienna Operetta Summer instead of revues as at the previous event. In 2011 the Johann Strauss operetta 'Wiener Blut' took place in the Chinese city of Fuzhou . The Vienna Operetta Summer had won the competition according to the invitation to tender by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and was thus the only European participant in the 1st Chinese Opera Festival 2011 .

Under the directorship of Markus Windberger, his then wife Patricia Nessy was artistic director and Charles Prince was the musical director of the operetta summer. The stage was a peep box set in a baroque setting with a maximum width of 38 m and a total depth of 15 m. The orchestra consisted of a maximum of 40 musicians in a covered shell. The grandstand offered space for 500 people.

On April 23, 2013, the Eisenstadt Regional Court announced insolvency proceedings against Windberger Art GmbH as the organizer of the Vienna Operetta Summer due to a lack of cost coverage. Since the insolvency proceedings were not opened for lack of cost coverage, the company was liquidated. -Not up to date !
