Ramesh Nair (born August 30, 1975 in Landau in the Palatinate ) is an Indian choreographer , dancer , stage actor and singer . He was born and raised in Germany and, as the son of Indian parents, has Indian citizenship.

Life

Nair started his studies at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen , which he graduated with a diploma as a stage actor in 1999. Then he moved to Vienna . He has appeared in numerous productions, such as Some Like It Hot , West Side Story , Wake Up or Hair . In 2006 he was also the director and choreographer of the latter. Further choreographies (for example for the musical Christmas In Vienna or The Smile of a Summer Night ) followed. In 2013 he was choreographer in the musical Aladdin and the Magic Lamp at the Graz Opera House and played the title role.

Nair also founded the Sophistikids Company , which he also leads. Nair is also the choreographer of numerous commercials, such as for Hervis .

From 2008 onwards, he became known to a large majority of Austrians as the Indian in the tele.ring advertising campaign Ask the Indian , the advertising line was discontinued in 2016.

In 2009 he took second place in the 5th season of the ORF production Dancing Stars with his dance partner Michaela Heintzinger. As a choreographer and dancer with the tap dance group Penguin Tappers, Nair was German master and Baden-Württemberg master.

At the Great Chance of Choirs , he was a juror alongside Oliver Pocher , Larissa Marolt and Kammersängerin Birgit Sarata in April and May 2015 at ORF .

From January 2016 he was seen alongside Angelika Niedetzky in the sketch comedy Kalahari Gemsen on ORF; with Niedetzky he also wrote the script for the show. The title is an anagram of the first names of the two main characters. Directed by Thomas Mraz .

Nair lives in Vienna.
