The Penguin Tappers from Hemsbach are the dance sport department of TV Hemsbach 1891 e. V.

The main focus of the department is tap dancing . But there are also other dance styles, such as B. ballet , jazz or oriental dance are offered. Within the tap dance the focus is on the formation dance , with which the Penguin Tappers were able to achieve international success. With 88 German championships and 11 world championship titles (across all classes), the Penguin Tappers are the most successful German dance ensemble in the field of tap dance (as of November 30, 2019).

history

In 1986 a dance group was founded at the Hemsbach Education Center by the sports teacher Marianne Heinrich. In the course of time, the success of this working group exceeded the purely school work. The TV Hemsbach 1891 then founded the tap dance department in 1988, which from then on appeared under the name Penguin Tappers and took part in national and international championships.

In order to take part in the German Championship for Formations, she had to be a member of the General German Dance Teachers Association (ADTV). That is why the Penguin Tappers joined the ADTV Tanzschule Nuzinger in Heidelberg in 1991, but remained a department of TV Hemsbach.

Since the German Championships existed (1992), the main class formation has always been among the top three and thus qualified for the World Championships that have been taking place since 1995.

In 1996 they switched to the Hammersdorf dance school in Weinheim in order to continue participating in the championships.

Since 2008 the Penguin Tappers have been performing regularly at the world dance gala in the Kurhaus in Baden-Baden . In 2013 the Penguin Tappers took part in the TV show Got to Dance and reached the finals.

The Penguin Tappers are a registered association, in which - and this is unique - all age groups from schoolchildren to main class II, as well as popular sports as well as international top-class sports are represented at a professional level. You compete against professional dance schools, as well as national teams and the like. a. from USA, Canada and other nations.

Age groups and groups

In tap dance , different classes are formed depending on age, which then start in the areas of solo, duo, trio, small group (4 to 7 dancers) and formation (8 to 24 dancers). Production has a special position . All age groups are mixed here and there is no upper limit to the number of dancers. In the solo area there is a distinction between male and female, all other groups are mixed. The Penguin Tappers usually start in all age groups and groups at the championships.
