Birgit Sarata
Birgit Sarata (born June 26, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera and operetta singer ( soprano ).
Life
The soprano Birgit Sarata, who was born in Vienna and trained by Esther Réthy at the Conservatory there, is known less for her artistic merits than for her position in Austrian social life. She made guest appearances - first as a youthful dramatic soprano, later increasingly in operettas - with great success in the entire German-speaking area, at the Vienna Volksoper , at the Salzburg State Theater , at the Graz Opera , at the Bregenz Festival , at the Berlin Theater des Westens , in Dortmund and Nuremberg . At the same time she also had contracts with Düsseldorf and Cologne as well as in Zurich and at the Ghent Opera . Because of her radiant appearance, she was long considered the ideal type of operetta diva . It was mainly roles like Rosalinde ( Die Fledermaus ) and Hanna Glawari ( The Merry Widow by Franz Lehár ) that became her core repertoire . As an “ambassador of Viennese charm”, she went on extensive concert tours all over the world, for example during the 1978 World Cup in Argentina , Australia , Japan and the USA . The King of Tonga invited them to his music festival . Before Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi she sang the “Vilja song” from the merry widow in his mother tongue . She sang at hundreds of concerts , appeared in more than thirty German-speaking theaters and was the ZDF operetta film star of the 1970s, for example in the film adaptation of Lehár's The Land of Smiles alongside René Kollo and Dagmar Koller . Birgit Sarata's achievements as a singer and actress are documented in several operettas, films and television programs.
Birgit Sarata appeared under the name Pitsch-Sarata during her marriage to the industrialist Fred Pitsch. After marrying the detergent manufacturer Kurt Konrad Rajer, she retired from the stage in the early 1980s and, as Birgit Sarata-Rajer, mainly performed star guest appearances on international cruise ships.
Birgit Sarata is today (2017) one of the main representatives of Viennese social life and organizes major events for her hometown.
She is Honorary Vice Consul of the Republic of Senegal .
At the Great Chance of Choirs , she was a juror alongside Oliver Pocher , Larissa Marolt and Ramesh Nair in April and May 2015 at ORF .
