from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sdružení pro republiku - Republikánská strana Československa (SPR-RSČ, German Association for the Republic - Republican Party of Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech right-wing extremist party that was represented in the Czech National Council from 1992 to 1998 and in the Czech Chamber of Deputies from 1993 .

history

The SPR-RSČ was founded in December 1989. In the elections to the Czech National Council in June 1990 she did not run, in 1992 she won 5.98% of the vote. and thus obtained 14 mandates. The party sharply criticized the dismembration of Czechoslovakia .

During the legislative period 1992–1996 9 members left the parliamentary group. Nevertheless, the party was able to increase its election result in 1996 and got 8% of the vote, which corresponds to 18 seats. In the early elections in 1998, however, it was no longer able to move into the House of Representatives with 3.9%. Since then it no longer plays a role at the national level.

Due to their right-wing extremist, xenophobic and partly anti-Semitic orientation, the republicans were just as incapable of forming coalitions as the communist KSČM , which contributed to the instability of the political system.

Party chairman Miroslav Sládek ran several times unsuccessfully as a candidate for the election of the Czech president . In 1998 he was unable to take part in the election personally, as he was arrested shortly before for a seditious speech and was only released a few days after the election.

In 2010, at the request of the Czech government, the party's activities were suspended by the Supreme Administrative Court because it repeatedly failed to send financial statements to the Chamber of Deputies. As this was repeated in the following years, in October 2012 the Czech government applied for the party's dissolution to the Supreme Administrative Court.

Program

The SPR-RSČ was characterized by radical criticism of the government and was often viewed as populist and right-wing radical . In particular, she repeatedly stood out for her hostility towards the Roma and other national minorities living in the Czech Republic . In the House of Representatives , its chairman, Miroslav Sládek, suggested, among other things, that the age of criminal responsibility should be reduced to ten years, especially for Roma children.

The party opposed the dismembration of Czechoslovakia and advocated a strong, independent Czechoslovak state. She was in favor of a professional, strong army , emphasized national sovereignty and refused to join the European Union and NATO . After the Velvet Revolution , she also spoke out in favor of the reintegration of Carpathian Ukraine .
