Seán Gibbons

Seán Francis Gibbons (born May 31, 1883 - April 19, 1952 ) was an Irish politician .

life and career

Gibbons was elected to the 4th Dáil Éireann in 1923 for the Cumann na nGaedheal in the constituency of Carlow-Kilkenny . However, he resigned his mandate as Teachta Dála on October 30, 1924 and joined the Farmers Party. In the by-election to fill his vacant seat in the Dáil, Thomas Bolger was elected.

In 1932 he was elected 7th for Fianna Fáil in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency. In 1933 he was re-elected. In the 1937 elections, he failed to defend his mandate again. Gibbons was now senator in the Seanad Éireann , which he belonged from 1938 to 1944. During this time he was Senate President ( Cathaoirleach ) from 1938 to 1943 . After he lost his seat in the 4th Seanad Éireann in 1944, he was able to be re-elected to the 6th Seanad Éireann in 1948. He did not run in the 1951 elections.

The politician James Gibbons is his nephew.
