Seán Mac Mathúna

Seán Mac Mathúna [ ʃɑːn̪ (m) ək maˈhuːn̪ə ] (* 1936 in Tralee , Ireland ) is an Irish author.

Life

He was born the son of a small farmer and a building contractor. After attending St. Brendan's College in Killarney , he studied at University College Cork . In 1958 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . In 1959 the Higher Diploma in Education followed . He then worked in Dublin as a high school teacher.

Mac Mathúna writes short stories in Irish . They were published in the Irish literary magazine Comhar . He translated his own works into English . He also wrote children's stories.

Awards

At the Oireachtas na Gaeilge cultural festival , he won prizes for short stories in 1972 and 1973. In 1976 he received the Listowel National Literary Competition Short Story Award . Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin / Irish Book of the Year Award 1999 for the short story book Banana .
