The Sea Slice was a test ship of the United States Navy and is now in commercial use in the offshore wind farm service.
The basis of the 1997 built Sea Slice of Lockheed Martin is a SWATH -Rumpfdesign. The Sea Slice , classified as a passenger ship, weighs around 140 t. It is equipped with four torpedo-shaped submerged hulls instead of two. This construction is intended to reduce the vertical movement caused by waves even more intensely than the previously common SWATH hull design and thus allow higher speeds with the advantage of the characteristic low movements of the SWATH ships in the sea.
The Sea Slice , designed for armament similar to the so-called Littoral Combat Ships , was removed from the Navy Service after extensive testing and offered for sale. The new owner, the Danish company Advanced Offshore Solutions, has carried out conversions for the offshore wind farm service. It was transported from San Diego, USA, to Northern Europe by the Frauke of the Hamburg shipping company SAL Heavy Lift .
