Seabank House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seabank House is a villa and later a hotel in the Scottish village of Aberdour in the Council Area Fife . In 1973 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Seabank House was built in 1831 as the widow's house of the Henderson Baronets , who resided at nearby Fordell Castle . The design is attributed to the Scottish architect Thomas Hamilton . Hamilton had been in contact with George Douglas, 16th Earl of Morton since 1826 , and designed, among other things, a bell tower for the local parish church, which was not carried out. In the mid-19th century, the Hendersons sold Seabank House. Due to the growing tourism in Aberdour, the Seabank House Hotel was established there in the late 19th century .

description

An eight-part fighter window is inserted above the wooden portal . Twelve-part lattice windows are usually installed along the facade . An extension on the northwest side is more recent.
