The Sealers Passage (English for seal catcher passage , Spanish Pasaje Foqueros ) is a strait in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It runs between Cape Yelcho on the north coast of Elephant Island and the Seal Islands .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the strait that way in 1971 because it was used by sealers as an abbreviation for bypassing the north coast of Elephant Island in the 1820s.
