Sean McCann (* 1950 in Cork , Ireland ) is a lieutenant general of the Irish Armed Forces and was from 2010 to 2013 Chief of Staff of the Defense Forces , that chief of staff of the armed forces.

Life

Sean McCann was born in Cork, Ireland in 1950. However, he grew up in Tipperary . McCann attended Thurles Secondary School and Cistercian College Roscrea. McCann currently resides in Newbridge with his wife and two sons .

Military career

Lieutenant General Sean McCann began his training as a cadet in 1970. Some time later he was Director of Operations and Director of Cavalry . He was also an instructor at the United Nations Training School. Since 2009 he has been Deputy Chief of Staff , i.e. Deputy Commander in Chief. He was nominated for the post of Commander-in-Chief on June 9, 2010 and was formally appointed on June 13, 2010 after the Secretary of Defense of Ireland Tony Killeen accepted his nomination.

McCann was often on duty overseas. In 1981 and 1987 he completed assignments in Lebanon . He later worked on the Iraqi border (1991). In 2000 he took part in the European Union observation mission in Yugoslavia. From 2002 to 2003 he was Chief Operations Officer in Jerusalem
