The Sebaskachu River , also Shapeshkashiu-shipu , is an approximately 85 km long tributary of Lake Melville in the east of Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The Sebaskachu River has its origin in a nameless lake at an altitude of 360  m . It initially flows 35 km south and reaches a larger lake. At river kilometer 59 the Sebaskachu River leaves the lake and then flows in an easterly direction. In the lower 40 kilometers the river shows a strongly meandering behavior with numerous river bends and oxbow lakes . Eventually, the Sebaskachu River reaches the north shore of Lake Melville, 16 miles north of the North West River parish . The Sebaskachu River drains an area of ​​580 km².

Fish fauna

Atlantic salmon and brook trout are found in the river system .
