Sebastian Doppenstein

Sebastian Doppenstein (* 1497 in Basel ; † April 2, 1570 ibid) was a Swiss politician.

Life

Sebastian Doppenstein, a cloth merchant by trade, belonged to the key guild from 1518 and to the saffron guild in Basel from 1525 , both of which were among the powerful gentlemen's guilds. From 1552 he took a seat in the Small Council . In 1560 he was elected chief guild master and in 1564 mayor. Doppenstein regularly represented the city of Basel at the Federal Diet .

Doppenstein was married three times. Sebastian Spörlin was his nephew.
