from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sebastian II. (* Before 1491; † August 26, 1559 at Neu-Ortenburg Castle near Ortenburg ) was the eighth child of the Ortenburg imperial count Sebastian I and Maria von Neuburg and came from the Ortenburg aristocratic family .

Live and act

Sebastian first appeared in a document in 1491 after the death of his father together with his siblings. In it he is still referred to as a minor.

On April 28, 1551 Sebastian joined his brother Georg III. in the service of Emperor Charles V and held the rank of council. Although Sebastian II was legally supposed to succeed his brother Christoph I, who died at the beginning of 1551, as Count of Ortenburg, the Emperor advised him against the office due to his old age. Sebastian followed his advice and on May 21, 1551 officially waived his rights in favor of his nephew Joachim I.

He died on August 26, 1559 at the Neu-Ortenburg Fortress, near Ortenburg . Sebastian was buried in the Sixtus Chapel , the Ortenburg burial site in the cathedral cloister, next to the Passau cathedral .

progeny

Sebastian II lived unmarried and died childless.
