Kördel started windsurfing at the age of seven under the guidance of his father while on vacation in Corsica . From then on, he practiced and trained on Lake Constance at home and took part in a raceboard regatta for the first time at the age of twelve. After minor successes, such as winning the Engadine surf marathon on Lake Silvaplana four times , he won the German slalom championship in 2012. In the following two years he took part in the Windsurf World Cup, two German championship titles in racing and a 6th place in the Formula World Cup .
After improving his performance in the previous World Cup seasons, he took his first podium in the Hvide Sande slalom in 2016 . In 2017 he was able to place himself in the top 10 of the slalom ranking for the first time. Kördel recorded his greatest success so far in the 2018 season. While he was unable to maintain his previous slalom performance, he was on the podium at two foil events and narrowly missed it as 4th of the Windsurf World Cup Sylt . Through these achievements he was runner-up in the end behind Gonzalo Costa Hoevel from Argentina .
