Sebastian Kempgen

Wilhelm Sebastian Kempgen (born May 11, 1952 in Duisburg ) is a German Slavist and linguist . ORCID: 00000002-2534-9423.

After graduating from high school, Kempgen studied Slavic Studies and General Linguistics at the Universities of Bochum , Münster and Konstanz . From 1978 he was a research assistant at the University of Konstanz, where he received his doctorate in 1981. From 1981 to 1987 he was a university assistant in Konstanz, where he completed his habilitation in 1987. In the summer semester of 1988 he was a substitute professor (C4) at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken. He was then a Heisenberg fellow from the DFG in Konstanz from 1988 to 1991. In 1991 he was appointed professor for Slavic Linguistics at the University of Bamberg . Since 1984 he has been a member of the Konstanzer Kreis . He retired on March 31, 2018.

From 2006 to 2010, Kempgen was chairman of the German Slavist Association , from October 1, 2008 to September 30, 2017, he was first vice-president of the University of Bamberg with the department for teaching and students, and then special representative of the university management for system accreditation. On December 5, 2013, Kempgen was taken over by Sv. Kliment Ohridski University of Bitola (Macedonia) appointed honorary professor (Prof. hc). In 2016 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his work as a Slavist and in academic self-administration . With effect from May 1, 2018, Prof. Kempgen was elected CEO of ACQUIN . As part of his farewell lecture on June 12, 2018, Kempgen was appointed Emeritus of Excellence at the university.
