Sir James Sebastian Lamin Wood , KCMG ( Chinese  吳思田 , Pinyin Wú Sitian ; born 6. April 1961 ), known by his middle name Sebastian, is a British diplomat who was and 2010-2015 Ambassador to China since 2015 British Ambassador to Germany is .

Life

Wood was at Emanuel School in London and then studied mathematics and philosophy at Magdalen College , Oxford . In 1983 he joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office . It was first used in the British Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand. He was then appointed First Secretary of the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group, which organized the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong.

In 2002, when he was appointed Advisor to the British Embassy in Washington DC, he was promoted to Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG).

In 2010 he got his first job as ambassador to China. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG) on the royal birthday in 2014 and for his services to British prosperity and the representation of British interests in China.

In July 2015, the UK Foreign Office announced that Wood would be appointed Ambassador to Germany in September. He took up the post in Berlin on September 21, 2015.
